What to expect at your first visit

When you arrive at your first visit, there will be some paperwork to fill out to help us get to know you.  Please arrive 10-15 minutes early, as this can take some time.  The forms are also available online if you would prefer to fill them out in advance and bring them with you. Simply click the link above to download and print the forms.

We get to know you

Once registration is complete, you will meet Dr. Walker and Andrea, who will start by reviewing your medical and dental history, then chat with you about any concerns or goals that you have surrounding your oral health.

After getting to know you, we will then do a comprehensive examination of your teeth, gums and surrounding tissues.  The purpose of this examination is to create a record of what your mouth looks like at this point in time.  We will be charting everything, including any teeth that are missing or have been removed, past fillings, crowns and root canals, measurements of gum recession and inflammation, and even a measurement of how your teeth line up when they bite together!  This is necessary in order to detect any changes that could occur in the future between your check-ups.  It is also a necessary part of record-keeping required of all dentists by the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario.

If you have not had x-rays taken within the past 12 months or if Dr. Walker detects anything suspicious, new pictures may be taken as needed.  If your previous dentist has x-rays on file that were taken recently, Dr. Walker will obtain them whenever possible if they are needed.

Dr. Walker will discuss her findings with you in detail.  When treatment is recommended, your treatment options will be discussed.  With your input and Dr. Walker’s recommendations, a treatment plan will be created.

We'll freshen your smile

Once your examination is complete, we will clean and polish your teeth, offer you tips on how to maintain excellent oral health, and determine the best recall frequency for your future check-ups!
